EXPLANATION OF THE ACTIVITIES WITH STUDENTS

ACTIVITY DONE.

The purpose of the activity was for the students to understand themselves better, as this will help them to choose a profession more easily. First of all, we talked about the fact that we are different,
that we have different strong and weaker areas. It is important to be aware of our strong areas, as we will be more successful in professions that are closer to us.
The students were given instructions for solving the questionnaire "Self-assessment of multiple intelligences". Each student assessed whether each statement was true for him or not, entered the results in a table and discovered which of the 7 intelligences (Linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual and spatial, musical, interpersonal, personal and motor) are more important to him or less expressed. In the end, he entered the results into the circle of multiple intelligence and got a visual representation. We commented on the results individually with each student.
In the second part, the students completed another worksheet. They delved into themselves and thought about the specific advantages and problems they perceive in themselves. For advantages, they wrote how they can use them, and for problems, how to solve them. First they thought for themselves, but then they could consult friends they know. Each Student also told his strength and weakness directly, and the other members of the group also commented on it. The students presented themselves to their peers based on the newly acquired information.

TARGET GROUP.

The group of 23 participants consists of 9th grade students who attend the Brezovica Primary School near Ljubljana. There are more than 100 students in the generation, and students who want additional content in the field of career counseling are included. They are in the last grade of primary school and will continue to their chosen secondary school next school year. During this period, they are thinking intensively about enrolling in high school, so it is an ideal time to test methodologies.

DIFFICULTIES.

Problems with the methodology itself arose in connection with the fact that the methodology was too demanding and too extensive for the time we had available. The idea of a multidisciplinary project is very good, but it was not feasible in the given situation. We had to limit ourselves to 1 expert (a social pedagogue) who helped the students to explore strong and weak areas, different types of intelligence and to find their own strengths and problems. Based on (some new knowledge) about themselves, the students prepared an oral presentation of themselves.

SUGGESTIONS.

The activity offers a wide range of possible uses. Based on the age group and specifics of the participants, I decided that we would get to know ourselves more deeply. Students usually do not have many opportunities to solve personality tests. I used an existing tool that explores 7 types of intelligence. The test was adapted to their understanding, so there were no problems. Also, in the second part, everyone understood what they had to do. Our proposal is to include several different tests in this methodology, which help the student to get to know himself. This is a prerequisite for an individual to successfully present himself.

REPORT ABOUT STUDENT’S FEEDBACKS

Pupils rarely have the opportunity to get to know themselves within the school premises, so they liked the activity. First they thought about themselves, then they could consult their friends. This added width. It has been noticed that they have a harder time finding their strengths than their weaknesses. In general, during this developmental period, they need more encouragement to be able to clearly express what they are good at.
Otherwise, they were very interested in the results. Some were expectations, some were not. But the results were a good starting point for the conversation. The students included the new knowledge in their presentation.
