EXPLANATION OF THE ACTIVITIES WITH STUDENTS

This activity was executed with 21 students of the 10th Multimedia course. This was guided and supervised by the Psychology Service.
Pitch is used to sell products, attract investors, or get sponsorship for a project. In the case of Personal Pitch, it is a “personal sales pitch”, with the objective of winning over the recruiter to hire a candidate. It should be short and direct to get the message across clearly and effectively. Lasting from 3 to 10 minutes – approximately – the Pitch works as a simple and objective presentation about itself. Basically, the main objective is to convince the recruiter of your skills and potential.
It can be used to generate curiosity and interest in recruiters and open doors to new professional opportunities. For that reason, this is an essential tool for a job application and is very common at Job Fairs.
In this case, our students were challenged to do a pitch and present themselves. The only directions given was that they had to state their name, age, course, and skills - personal and technical.
The experience was rewarding and rich in moments of self-reflection. The children analyzed their own profile and had the opportunity to evaluate their competences and the impact of them in their future career.

REPORT ABOUT STUDENT’S FEEDBACKS

The Pitch is a complex activity that is directly related to self-knowledge. The students demonstrated interest and involvement, however, due to the complexity of the task, they revealed some difficulty in accomplishing it.
The students identified that their main difficulties were reflecting on themselves and listing their skills. In fact, most students focused on attendance and punctuality as their main personal characteristics. On the other hand, the students demonstrated a greater knowledge about their hard skills, namely, their areas of competence.
The difficulty in identifying their soft skills is directly associated with the fact that they present ages in which the process of self-exploration and knowledge is on going.
To make a personal pitch with potential, the main ingredient is self-knowledge. We must know our worst flaws and best qualities, interests, and goals to be fully aware of what we are capable of. Our students identify the lack of self-knowledge as the biggest difficulty in building a personal pitch.
